One of my great joys of working on Capitol Hill is meeting people and making friends along the way. In particular, there are those who have committed to sharing God‘s love with those who work in Congress. Some were part of a church, others with a para-church organization, and some simply had an individual calling.
Now, after working in the Senate, I’ve had the privilege of returning the favor. About four or five times a year, we gather together those who are dedicated to personal ministry on Capitol Hill. We get together for lunch, and now by Zoom, to support, encourage, and pray for one another in this vital work.
I’d like to highlight the work one of these individuals whom God has called to minister not only to Capitol Hill but the entire DC region. As we look at the seeming darkness around us it is refreshing to see how God is using people like this to bring his light in to those places.
Howie Levin heads up a group called OneHeart DC, which is committed to bringing together the church in this area for the purpose of loving and caring for others and sharing the good news of the gospel
Recently Howie and OneHeartDC produced a video called “The Blessing DMV.” You may have seen this earlier this week here on HillFaith, or in other forums and versions using the powerful prayer and worship song.
The song in its many versions has become a beautiful global phenomenon speaking the blessing that is taken from the book of Numbers in the Old Testament over all those who hear it:
The Lord bless you
And keep you
Make His face shine upon you
And be gracious to you
The Lord turn His
Face toward you
And give you peace
Take a few minutes and allow it to bless you as well. As you do, imagine the Lord pouring out His blessing on and among all those who work on Capitol Hill. From Members and staff to support workers, Capitol Police, the Library of Congress, and all who work and serve there.
May the Lord bless you and keep you as we give thanks this week.
