STAFF MOVES: Look Who’s Getting Promoted!

Recent Moves, As Reported by Legistorm:

Ana Alegria is the new Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee deputy press secretary. Ana is a 2017 Harvard graduate in history.

Cole Bockenfeld is Sen. Chris Murphy’s (D-Ct.) new national security adviser. Cole earned his MA in 2017 from the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies and his BA in 2008 in political science from the University of Arkansas.

Jason Gottesman is Rep. Fred Keller’s (R-Pa.) new communications director. Jason is a 2009 graduate of the Widener School of Law and earned his BA in 2006 in political science from the University of Montana. He was previously communications director for the Pennsylvania Republican Party.

Rachel Walker is the new communications director for Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas). Rachel is a 2015 University of Arkansas graduate in political science and journalism. She previously worked for Reps. Rick Crawford (R-Ark.) and Michael Burgess (R-Texas).

How Important Is Saying ‘Thank You’?:

Well, it may be a key to being to convert an internship in a Hill office into a full-time job, according to Mag Gottlieb, career director for George Washington University’s Graduate School of Political Management.

“Send an email to everyone you meet to thank them and really mean it (even if you thought your meeting was a waste of time). Generally, I’m a HUGE fan of a written snail mail “thank you,” but in the case of Capitol Hill and the mail ‘needing to be scrubbed,’ don’t worry about the snail mail thank you for the Hill,” Gottlieb explains as one of six tips she offers for moving up from an internship.

Even if you’ve already made the move up, Gottlieb, writing for Hill Happenings, has some valuable observations that should be useful to anybody working for a senator, representative or congressional committee. And speaking of working on the Hill …
