If you have followed the “This Is Us” tv series, you will recognize Chrissy Metz as “Kate,” daughter of Jack and Rebecca Pearson and sister to brothers Kevin and Randall.
What you may not recognize is Metz boldly declaring her Christian faith despite that often being a ticket to professional oblivion in tinsel town.
“It is hard I think, now, to just be really vocal about your faith, or what you believe in because people want to think ‘it’s not cool,’ but I’m like, I don’t care!” Metz recently told Faithwire’s Lindsey Elizabeth.
“I know it can be a challenge because the whole problem is that we all want to fit in, we want to be liked and validated,” Metz told Elizabeth. “So when we’re different, we feel it, but I think that when people are strong in their convictions, it can really persuade people to think differently just as the movie’s going to do.”
The movie Metz is alluding to is “Breakthrough,” which hits theaters April 12, on Easter weekend. That’s an appropriate bit of scheduling because the movie is the story of Joyce Smith, mother of then-14-year-old John, who fell through the ice in 2015 and wasn’t pulled from the frozen waters of Lake Saint Louise for at least 15 minutes.
He was declared dead, without heartbeat, and doctors told his mother there was nothing else medically they could do for him. But Joyce Smith started praying and kept on praying for a miracle. And her son came back.
Metz isn’t the only star connected with “Breakthrough.” The part of Brian Smith, Joyce’s husband, is played by Josh Lucas of “Sweet Home Alabama” fame as Jake Perry.
And the movie’s executive producer is Stephen Curry. Yes, that Stephen Curry, the phenomenal NBA star with the Golden State Warriors.
